Dating all the way back to the 13th Century the Thurnham Hall estate, inherited by the Dalton Family in the 15th Century from their ancestors de Thurnhams, sits in the hamlet of Thurnham bound by the Lancaster Canal and surrounded by the picturesque scenery of Lancaster’s moorlands, fells and rolling hills.
With over 600 years of history the Thurnham Hall estate has stood magnificently throughout the Tudor, Elizabethan and Jacobean periods and, to this day, exudes elegance and has reflections of these moments in history everywhere you look.
From the Gothic windows introduced by John Dalton with his coat of arms displayed beautifully in the glass, to the Jacobean Great Hall and the exposed Tudor beams throughout the building, each integral part of Thurnham Hall’s structure can be traced back to these specific time periods. Thurnham Hall even boasts its own private chapel built by Elizabeth Dalton, the Lady of the Manor for 24 years, out of loyalty to her family’s Catholic faith.
With the death of William Augustus Dalton, Thurnham hall seemed to deteriorate slowly and World War Two brought even further concern that this building would become lost in history as so many of its kind. That is until the early 1970’s when Thurnham Hall was purchased and restored to its former glory by Mr and Mrs Crabtree along with their son David. Even after a fire that swept through a large area of the house leaving it needing to be completely rebuilt, Mr Crabtree has managed to create a perfect restoration of the original Manor as built by John Dalton – seven centuries of architecture brought together

Thurnham Hall is situated in the beautiful countryside between Lancaster and the Glasson Dock area.
When driving you should follow the signs to RLI (Royal Lancaster Infirmary) and continue past this. Continue to follow the A588 down towards Glasson Dock passing ‘The Stork Pub’ and ‘The Mill at Conder Green’. As you continue down this road you will drive into a very small village with ‘Moss Lane’ on your left hand side.
Directly after this lane there is a small turning to your right; follow this and you will see the glory of Thurnham Hall appear just above the incline. Continuing on this road, you will reach the car park for Thurnham Hall.
